How to clean a fur coat at home

Natural fur requires a delicate attitude. Before you start cleaning, learn the prohibitions that can ruin an expensive item. It is forbidden:

  • immerse in water and moisten abundantly;
  • use caustic chemicals, chlorine bleaches and stain removers;
  • rub with force, comb out the fur with a brush;
  • use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust;
  • iron with an iron from the wrong side and the outside;
  • mask unpleasant odors with perfumes or air fresheners;
  • dry on the battery, near heating appliances.

It is allowed to clean the fur with soapy water, shampoo or special products. The latter are available in spray bottles. They are applied to the fur, and the fur coat restores its original appearance.

How to clean a natural fur coat

Before cleaning, consider the following parameters:

  • kind of fur;
  • color and brilliance;
  • density and length of the cover;
  • stiffness and softness of the villi;
  • elasticity;
  • base strength.
A natural fur coat can be cleaned chemically or mechanically. The first is based on the dissolution of dirt particles, the second is the application of sorbents that absorb dirt and are removed with a brush.

1. How to clean a mink coat

Under the condition of careful handling, the service life of a mink coat is more than 10 years. If the fur coat has an unpleasant smell , a dull surface, the villi are crushed or, conversely, stick out in all directions, cleaning is required.

Ways:

  • Shampoo - dissolve a few drops in a bowl of warm water. Lather and apply with a sponge to the mink fur. Rub gently until the contamination is completely gone. Wet a cloth with clean water, gently remove the foam.
  • Vinegar or hydrogen peroxide - well relieves yellowness. Dip a cotton pad in the product, wring it out a little and walk on the fur gently without pressing. This will be enough to make the villi shine again.
  • Gasoline - helps with removing greasy and dirty stains. Prepare a weak solution of gasoline, pour into a spray bottle, process a fur coat. Gently roll up the clothes and leave for 15 minutes. Unfold, remove dirt with a damp towel, then pat dry.
  • Ammonia or salt - restores greasy areas. Mix ammonia and salt in equal proportions. Wet a cloth with this solution, go over problem areas and remove dirt.

2. How to clean a mouton coat

The muton fur coat is included in the democratic price range, therefore it is popular with women of different ages. Proper care will extend the life of the product up to 10 years. This fur is thick, so you can knock out the dust with an ordinary firecracker without fear of damage. The principle is similar to carpet beating , only the force of impact should be reduced.

Semolina, talc, starch, wheat bran are suitable for dry cleaning. The selected product is heated in a dry frying pan, scattered in an even layer on the surface, gently rubbed into the fur. After half an hour shaken, fat and dirt remain "sealed" in the grains.

For wet cleaning, a soapy solution helps. They take warm water and something foaming (shampoo, washing powder, liquid soap, carpet cleaners), then beat until a strong foam is obtained. Foam is treated with a fur coat and gently rubbed. The remains are removed with a sponge dipped in clean water. If washing powder is used, then without a bleaching effect.

3. How to clean the fur of a beaver coat

A beaver fur coat is very warm, able to warm even in the most severe frosts. The service life is also quite long - about 20 years, but subject to the rules of care. Cleaning can be divided into wet and dry. The first method should be used with caution if the fur is sheared.

Dry cleaning with sand is effective, it removes grease and dirt from the surface of the fur coat well, without damaging the downy undercoat. The sand must be washed, pebbles and debris removed, dried, heated in a dry frying pan . Distribute evenly with your hand over the fur. Leave for 5-10 minutes, then shake out all the grains of sand.

Wet cleaning is best done using shampoo. Drip the product into warm water, beat until light foam. Next - lower the fur coat into the water, trying to prevent the liquid from reaching the leather base. After water procedures, you need to walk through the villi with a cloth dipped in glycerin - the fur will become shiny again.

4. How to clean a rabbit coat

Such a fur coat is inexpensive, so it can be found in the wardrobe of any fashionista. Rabbit fur is very fragile and requires a very delicate attitude.

Dry cleaning can be done with starch (or talc). By the way, this method helps to restore the snow-white appearance. On the surface of the fur coat, you need to sprinkle dry starch, distribute it, gently rubbing it into the fur. Leave in this form for 20-30 minutes, then shake the product well and walk with a beater.

Helps to restore the original appearance table vinegar (9%). The agent is mixed with water in equal proportions. Next - the cleaning solution is applied carefully to the fur, moving from top to bottom. When the coat is dry, comb it with a special brush. Vinegar restores shine and removes all unpleasant odors. Do not be too zealous with combing - the rabbit fur is thin and the villi fall out easily.

5. How to clean a raccoon coat

Raccoon fur is very silky, but if not cared for, it starts to look untidy. A long pile must be combed periodically, to prevent the formation of tangles. To do this, the fur is slightly moistened from the sprayer and the entire product is carefully brushed through, trying not to damage the undercoat.

Wood chips are best for cleaning (available at the pet store). Best of all - from birch, linden, oak, these trees do not emit resin. Sawdust is moistened with alcohol, mixed, sprinkled, pressed and poured onto the fur. For exposure, 15-20 minutes is enough. Then shake well, comb the pile.

For a light raccoon coat, semolina is suitable. The product is sprinkled abundantly, rubbed with hands so that the grains penetrate to the base. Leave for half an hour, return and shake well. Comb out the remains of the cereal with a brush.

How to clean a faux fur coat

Fur made from synthetic fibers is much more practical to use. The coat can even be washed in the machine on a delicate cycle without spinning. But before cleaning, it is still better to read the recommendations on the product label. Not all fur coats are good friends with water.

6. How to machine wash and hand wash

If the label has a permissive sign, then you can start washing in the machine. The shorter the pile, the less chance of damaging the product. But before laying in the drum, dust must be knocked out of it. A bamboo stick or a regular carpet beater will come in handy. The dust removal process must be done carefully outdoors or on a balcony . A vacuum cleaner is also suitable, but it must be turned on at a low speed. You need to vacuum along the pile.

Only a fur coat is put into the drum; washing with other things is too risky. On the typewriter, you need to select the most delicate mode, each device has its own - “Hand wash”, “Silk”, “Wool”. Do not use dry powders, stain removers or harsh chemicals. You can add a conditioner with a neutral smell.

The main thing is to turn off the spin function, otherwise this wash will be the last - the product is greatly deformed. Rinsing should be limited to 400 rpm. After the end of the program, the fur coat is taken out, hung on a coat hanger and allowed to drain. Fur cannot be twisted like normal underwear. Dry away from heaters and direct sunlight.

The first stage of hand washing is no different from machine washing - the fur coat needs to be rid of dust. Warm water is poured into the bath, any liquid detergent (shampoo, liquid powder, detergent for delicate fabrics) is diluted. Leave to soak for 20 minutes. Then they shake their hands, stopping at the most polluted places. Rinse up to three times, in the last you can add a spoonful of vinegar to restore shine. Then wrapped in a cloth and remove excess water. Hang dry in a well-ventilated area.
