Prolonging youth: 5 spices to help slow down aging

Our bodies are designed to live up to 120 years. The inevitable (and normal) processes of oxidation and inflammation contribute to the gradual deterioration of health. But this does not mean that there is nothing we can do to improve the situation. The foods we eat every day play a very important role in healthy aging and longevity  - and certain herbs and spices can be helpful in improving it.

Plants (from which spices are made) have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help slow the aging process, maintaining the immune system and protecting against chronic diseases that are more common with age. There is no specific evidence of how much antioxidants you need to eat to slow aging, but research shows that people who consume them regularly live longer and better.

Here are 5 spices that will not only make the taste of the dish more interesting, but also help you stay young longer.

1: Ginger

A compound in ginger called gingerol plays a huge role in our health. It has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and may help fight cancer. Research is currently underway on how much of this food we need to eat to boost our microbiome - the collection of bacteria, fungi and viruses in our body that affects our overall health. Meanwhileit is recommended to consume ginger several times a week (grated in food or added to tea).

2: Turmeric

Another antioxidant and anti-inflammatory spice. Studies have shown that it improves memory in those who already have memory problems and generally strengthens the brain.

Turmeric  is a natural immunomodulator that helps support the immune system by boosting immunity when needed and suppressing it to prevent excess inflammation associated with many chronic diseases. Some studies show that turmeric can help treat cancer, cardiovascular, neurological, skin diseases, and metabolic disorders.

To improve the properties of turmeric, you can take a curcumin supplement (it is better to do this with foods containing healthy fats, so the substance is better absorbed).

3: Chilli

Hot peppers (any kind) contain capsaicin, a chemical that makes food spicy and has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown that regular consumption reduces the risk of cancer, heart and respiratory diseases.
